Rockstar confirm that GTA 6 is in "active production" – get excited!
The new Grand Theft Auto game is now available.

Finally, it's happened! Grand Theft Auto 6 is now in "active development," according to Rockstar, and the new game is "well started." What a beautiful day.
GTA V will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on March 15th, 2022, according to Rockstar Games' own blog post. Grand Theft Auto Online will be available on all next-generation platforms at the same time. The game was originally set to be released in March, but it now has a specific release date.
GTA V was released in September 2013 and has now sold over 155 million copies around the world. For years, rumors have swirled that a sequel was in the works, with Rockstar's own financial figures possibly hinting at a GTA 6 release date.
In any case, having proof of the game's existence is massive, and it will undoubtedly be one of the year's biggest stories.
"We know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, given GTA V's remarkable endurance," Rockstar wrote in a message.
"With every new project we take on, our objective is to go above and beyond what we've previously delivered — and we're excited to announce that active work for the next Grand Theft Auto game is well underway." We'll have more information as soon as we have it, so stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for more information.
"On behalf of our entire team, we appreciate your support and look forward to working with you in the future!"
According to a Kotaku story from April 2020, the next installment in the GTA series is "early in development." Is it possible that a trailer will be released later this year, two years later? The initial GTA V trailer was released on November 2nd, 2011.
Looking at when we might get a release date, Rockstar has released GTA games in October on several occasions in the past. While Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released on November 11th, 2021, the core mainline GTA games present a different image.
See below for the main GTA release dates:
- Grand Theft Auto – October 21st, 1997
- Grand Theft Auto 2 – October 22nd, 1999
- Grand Theft Auto III – October 22nd, 2001
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – October 29th, 2002
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – October 26th, 2004
- Grand Theft Auto IV – April 29th, 2008
- Grand Theft Auto V – September 17th, 2013
Following the release of the GTA Trilogy remasters, several users discovered an unnamed residence within a hanging photo on the wall of the Lil' Probe'Inn in San Andreas. According to the sleuths on the GTAForums, the house isn't known to be in any current GTA games, fueling rumors that this is the first image from GTA 6. Hopefully, we'll find out sooner rather than later whether or not this is accurate.
Another #GTATrilogy mystery hunt. The Lil' Probe'Inn has an unidentified house amongst the UFO photo display... GTAVI? (jk) (or am I, where is this from?)
