Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos in God of War Ragnarok, explains why the game has been delayed until 2022.
Christopher Judge suffered injuries back in August of 2019.

God of War Ragnarok, which was first announced during the PlayStation 5 Reveal Event in 2020, was set to debut in 2021, however Santa Monica Studio later confirmed that the game's release date had been pushed back to 2022.
While the revelation elicited a wide range of reactions, many just attributed it to the game's size and the fact that the company was only three years removed from the development cycle for God of War (2018).
Christopher Judge (Kratos in 2018's God of War) disclosed on Twitter that the reason for the postponement was due to an injury he sustained in August of this year. Judge claimed that he couldn't walk and had to undergo various treatments, including back and knee surgery as well as hip replacement.
God of War actor Christopher Judge explains injuries as reason for delay

In a tweet, the actor said that the company decided to hold off on continuing production on God of War Ragnarok until Judge had completed his rehab. He also stated that no one had authorised or urged him to send the tweet. God of War (2018) game designer Cory Barlog and prominent video game personality Jacksepticeye were among those who came out in support of him.
It was eventually encouraging to see fans and major gaming celebrities rally behind the actor and applaud Santa Monica Studio's choice to postpone production so that he could complete his recovery. Christopher Judge is likely one of the most important reasons why fans embraced the new direction the company chose for the series and the character, and why the 2018 is regarded as a generation-defining masterpiece.
God of War Ragnarok is set to be released in 2022, but no specific dates have been specified. The game will be released on both the PS5 and PS4, making it a cross-gen title.
