That means no more reverse snagging or bunching when ironing lightweight garments like blouses and thin, easily wrinkled T-shirts.

This steam generator heats up in a respectable two minutes, but it only has a 1.4-litre tank and no cord storage. Also, when compared to the very elegant Philips devices, the hand unit's style is so old-fashioned that you might flinch every time you approach to pick it up.

This compact hand steamer is ideal for business travellers or anyone who has ever tried to borrow an iron from a hotel. You're familiar with the scenario. Either another guest has taken the only iron available, or the iron they can lend you looks like something your great-grandmother might have used. Then there's the annoyance of attempting to squeeze the ironing board between the end of the bed and the required writing desk that no one ever uses.

To be honest, I didn't expect this device to make much of a difference on my badly creased, hand-held T-shirt, but if it didn't eliminate all the creases without the hot metal plate even contacting the cloth, I'd be shocked. It also comes with a space-saving converter that lets you to use any ordinary plastic drinks bottle instead of the main water tank, which is a tiny stroke of genius.

Despite how well it performs, the £100 asking price seems a little high given the amount of plastic used; the AC cable could perhaps be a little longer. However, if you frequently travel for work and wear suits, shirts, skirts, and blouses, this little, eminently packable bundle will save the day. WAIT, WHAT IS A STEAM GENERATOR?

Because steam is a crease's worst enemy, the more steam you have at your disposal, the easier the job will be.

Steam generators work in the same way as regular irons, but they're a lot more powerful, making ironing vast volumes of laundry faster, easier, and more efficient.

A steam generator, unlike a regular iron, is made out of a unit with a water reservoir, boiler, and pump that links to a lightweight iron via a rubber hose.

This separation of components allows steam generators to create significantly more continuous high-pressure steam and, in most cases, incredibly powerful steam boosts for difficult fabrics and heavy creases. A decent steam generator, for example, can discharge between 120g/min and a whopping 165g/min of continuous steam, whereas a common or garden iron can only deliver around 55g/min.
